ISO 9001:2026 Transition Consulting for SMEs
The ISO 9001 revision is still officially under development; ISO lists September 2026 as the planned publication month. I prepare your current or planned QMS so gap analysis, process updates, evidence, internal audit and transition planning are in place without putting your current ISO 9001:2015 certificate at risk.

Trusted by Leading Companies
What does ISO 9001:2026 preparation mean?
ISO 9001:2026 is the upcoming revision of the quality management standard. Until the standard is published, the work is not certification to the 2026 edition, but structured preparation for the expected changes.
In practice, that means reviewing existing ISO 9001:2015 processes, assessing gaps against the current draft status, planning new evidence and timing the transition so surveillance and recertification audits do not become rushed.
For companies without an existing certificate, preparation means making a strategic decision: certify to ISO 9001:2015 now and transition later, or build the QMS now in a way that keeps future 2026 work low.

Who should plan the ISO 9001:2026 transition?
ISO 9001:2015-certified SMEs
If your certificate needs to continue, you need early clarity on gaps, audit timing and the transition sequence.
Companies before first certification
If you want first certification in 2026 or 2027, your QMS build should not be based only on requirements that are about to change.
Suppliers facing customer audits
Large customers ask early about revision readiness. A documented transition plan reduces questions and special audits.
Leadership and QMRs
The revision touches leadership, quality culture, opportunity management, context review and evidence. That needs clear internal ownership.
How ISO 9001:2026 preparation works
From your first question to the certificate on the wall — and beyond.
- 1
Clarify status and audit calendar
We review certificate validity, planned surveillance or recertification audits, customer requirements and internal capacity. Outcome: a realistic transition frame.
- 2
Draft-based gap analysis
Your current QMS is assessed against the current revision status. I separate confirmed requirements, likely changes and points to monitor until publication.
- 3
Prioritise the transition plan
The gaps become an action plan with owners, dates and evidence. The sequence matters: secure effectiveness first, then update documentation.
- 4
Update processes and evidence
We refine context analysis, risks and opportunities, quality objectives, management review, internal audits, supplier control and relevant process evidence.
- 5
Prepare leadership and teams
Leadership, QMRs and affected teams receive a compact briefing on the new focus areas. Not a generic standard seminar, but concrete effects on daily work.
- 6
Internal audit and certification timing
Before the external date, we check implementation internally, close open points and align with the certification body once certification to the new edition is possible.
Why prepare the transition now?
No last-minute transition
The real work is spread across sensible steps instead of being compressed into the weeks before an audit.
Protect the existing certificate
Your ISO 9001:2015 system remains useful while the transition is prepared in a controlled way.
Avoid duplicate work
New processes, forms and trainings are designed with the revision in mind instead of being reworked later.
Handle customer audits with confidence
A clear revision roadmap shows customers and certifiers that your QMS is actively managed.
Lean documentation
I translate the new focus areas into practical evidence, not extra bureaucracy.

Common questions.
When will ISO 9001:2026 be published?
ISO currently lists the new ISO 9001 edition as under development and shows September 2026 as the planned publication month. Details can still change until final publication.
Can we already be certified to ISO 9001:2026?
No. Certification to ISO 9001:2026 is only possible after publication of the standard and the corresponding transition of certification bodies. Before that, the work is preparation, gap analysis and transition planning.
Should we still certify to ISO 9001:2015 in 2026?
That can make sense if customers, tenders or supplier approvals require a certificate now. In that case, we build the system so the later transition creates as little additional work as possible.
What changes are expected?
The revision is expected to place stronger emphasis on quality culture, leadership, opportunity management, climate relevance, the Harmonized Structure and clearer terminology. I frame the measures so they remain useful even if individual details shift before the final edition.
How long does an ISO 9001:2026 gap analysis take?
For typical SMEs, the analysis usually takes one to two weeks. Implementation depends on maturity: well-maintained ISO 9001:2015 systems often need targeted updates, older systems may need a broader QMS refresh.
How much does ISO 9001:2026 preparation cost?
Cost depends on company size, documentation maturity and audit timing. A focused gap analysis is significantly cheaper than a full certification project. After the first call, you receive a concrete fixed-price quote.
Is BAFA funding possible?
For SMEs, BAFA funding may be possible if the work can be classified as organisational or quality management consulting. I check eligibility before the project starts and support the application.
